Civil ceremonies have become increasingly popular. One of the reasons for this is the flexibility of the venue … your garden, a local park, a boat, hot air balloon, or small country chapel. Having conducted over 900 weddings across Western Australia Peta Dale continues to work with her clients to ensure that their ideas about the perfect ceremony turn into a reality.

As a successful celebrant for many years now, I have a wealth of experience and have been privileged to be an intimate part of many people’s special day.

I don’t offer set ceremonies or packages because I have found that everyone is unique and that should be reflected in your ceremony.

By assisting you and providing a library of resources we can both work together to create a ceremony that captures the most important parts of what makes your relationship so special.

Listening to my couples talk about their ideal day, I use my extensive experience to tailor a ceremony to suit you and your guests.

Many of my couples choose to have a simple garden wedding, make their vows in a country chapel, or have a relaxed ceremony on the beach. I know many of the venue providers, photographers, and musicians so I can coordinate and ensure your day runs smoothly.

Please feel free to take a look around my website,, and If I can answer any questions that you have about your special day, please give me a call – I’m more than happy to help.

Regardless of whether you want a formal ceremony in a special chapel, or are relaxed lunch where you surprise your guests with your vows, I am able to adapt and help you make the day a memorable experience for you and your guests.

Commitment ceremonies are essentially weddings without the legalities. There are many reasons why loving, committed, couples either choose not to, or are unable to marry. Whatever your situation may be, do remember that a commitment ceremony is not a marriage and therefore does not have the same legal implications.

The process of creating a commitment ceremony is much like that of a wedding – the only difference being that commitment ceremonies tend to be less formal and less traditional than a marriage ceremony. Of course this will depend on your personalities and values – you may want an intimate, informal ceremony with a few close friends in your own home, or you may want a larger, more formal ceremony at the type of venue usually used for weddings… anything is possible! the most important thing to achieve in the ceremony is to expresses who you and your partner are, both in form and in its content.

Unfortunately it is currently not possible in Australia for a same sex couple to be legally married. However no such restrictions apply to commitment ceremonies, which allow people to express their love no matter what their sexual orientation may be.

I have enjoyed friendships with people from a range of sexual orientations over the years, and am proud to describe myself as “gay-friendly”. I would be delighted to collaborate with you and your partner in creating the commitment ceremony of your dreams! Please contact me if you wish to know more about how I work. I warmly welcome your enquiries.

In our initial meeting we will go over the legalities and fill out all the required paperwork including the notice of intended marriage (NOIM) which must be completed a minimum of 1 calendar month and a maximum of 18 months before your ceremony.

Please bring the following documents:

  • If you were born in Australia, an original birth certificate or current passport.

  • If you were born overseas an current overseas passport is acceptable.

  • If you were previously married, an original of either a death certificate or divorce papers. It is helpful if you can bring your previous marriage certificate.
